HPH JV consortium to build Panama Metro Line 3 [free access]

The HPH Joint Venture consortium, comprising Korea-based Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Posco, has secured a USD2.51 billion contract to construct Panamá Metro Line 3. The contract period is 54 months. The project will be financed through a JPY29.58 billion loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as well as USD150 million allocated under the 2020–21 national budget.

 

Line 3 will be developed as a monorail in two phases. The first phase will span 26.7 km, connect Albrook station with Ciudad del Futuro, and cover 14 stations. The second phase will span around 7 km and will extend the line till La Chorrera.

 

The Panamá Metro system currently comprises two lines spanning around 37 km and covering 30 stations. Line 2 is planned to be extended to the Technological University and the Felipillo sector.
