Acciona signs civil works and O&M contract for Sao Paulo Metro Line 6, Brazil [free access]

February 10, 2020

Acciona has signed the contract to complete the construction as well as provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services for Sao Paulo Metro Line 6. The scope of work also includes supply of rolling stock and allied systems. The legal formalities are expected to be completed within 45 days. Works are expected to commence by end-2020.

The contract was initially awarded to Move São Paulo consortium, comprising Odebrecht, Queiroz Galvao, UTC Participaçoes, and Fundo Eco Realty. The consortium had commenced construction in January 2015, but the work was suspended in September 2016 due to issues in obtaining funding. In November 2019, Accoina acquired 70 per cent share in the concession contract from Move São Paulo consortium.

Sao Paulo Metro Line 6 is one of the largest infrastructure projects to be implemented on a public–private partnership (PPP) basis. The line will span 15.3 km and cover 15 stations. The line is expected to reduce the end-to-end journey time from 90 minutes to 23 minutes. Passenger services are expected to commence in 2024.
