Bengaluru Suburban Rail, India [free access]

Key players: Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (KRide) is the developer. KRide is a joint venture company of the state government of Karnataka and India’s Ministry of Railways.


RITES Limited has conducted the feasibility study as well as prepared the detailed project report (DPR).


Project description: Development of a suburban rail network in Bengaluru.


Background: The project involves development of four suburban rail corridors by 2023. These corridors will collectively span 148 km and cover 57 stations and will also offer interchange facilities for the Bangalore Metro network. The project has been approved by the state government of Karnataka and the Extended Railway Board (ERB) of Indian Railways. The project will now be sent to the Government of India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for final approval.



Funding: The project cost of INR159 billion will be financed by the state government of Karnataka, the Government of India, and through external sources. The government of Karnataka has allocated INR5 billion for the project in its budget for FY2020–21.
