Trial of mobile ticketing system begins in Delhi, India [free access]

July 4, 2020

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has commenced a trial of a mobile ticketing system for buses in Delhi. The trial is a part of the state government’s plan to minimise contact between passengers and conductors to control the spread of the novel coronavirus. In this trial, passengers can purchase tickets using a mobile application (app) developed by a team at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-Delhi). The app will also provide information about the vehicle occupancy. It is planned to be integrated with the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) One Delhi mobile app. The mobile ticketing system is planned to be introduced on a fleet of around 6,500 buses within two months.
