Civil works contracts signed for Malolos–Clark Railway project, Philippines [free access]

August 2, 2020

The Philippines’ Department of Transportation (DoTr) has signed two civil works contracts for Malolos–Clark Railway. The contracts have been valued at around USD728 million (PHP38 billion).

A joint venture (JV) of Acciona Construction Philippines, Inc. and EEI Corporation has secured a contract to construct 6.3-km-long railway lines and a 1.6-km-long depot access line, including an underground railway station at Clark International Airport. South Korea-based POSCO Engineering and Construction Company Limited has secured a contract to develop a depot and a railway operations control centre in Mabalacat.

The Malolos–Clark Railway project (also known as PNR North 2) will span 53 km and cover seven stations. It will reduce the end-to-end journey time from around 90 minutes to around 35 minutes. Passenger services on select section(s) are expected to begin in 2022. It is a part of the North–South Commuter Railway, one of the largest transit projects to be undertaken in the Philippines and is a part of the Build, Build, Build programme. Three civil works contracts are expected to be awarded by end-2020. The project will also be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
