PSTA secures funding and awards construction contract for SunRunner BRT project, US [free access]

The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) has approved a USD22.9 million contract for the construction of the SunRunner bus rapid transit (BRT) project. The scope of work includes the resurfacing and construction of business access and transit lanes along 1st Avenue North and South, portions of Pasadena Avenue in St. Petersburg and South Pasadena; uniquely branded stations; and traffic signal improvements along the corridor.

 

The SunRunner BRT project will span 16.5 km, serve 16 stations, and connect downtown St. Petersburg to the Gulf Beaches area. Construction is expected to begin in July 2020. The buses are expected to be delivered for the project in 2021.

 

The total cost of the project is estimated to be USD43.93 million. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded a USD21.8 million grant for the project. Additionally, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be providing a grant of USD10.5 million (under the New Starts Program and Design Grant. The city of St. Petersburg and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) will fund the remaining amount.
