MoUs signed for Bangalore Metro Phase 2B, India [free access]

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) for Bangalore Metro Phase 2B.


BMRCL has signed an MoU with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to develop a 9.45-km-long section of Bangalore Metro Phase 2B on the public–private partnership (PPP) mode. This section will be developed at an estimated investment of INR8 billion. BMRCL will construct the section as well as develop civil, electro-mechanical, and allied facilities. BIAL will develop, manage, and maintain two stations located in the airport premises. The civil works of  the section are expected to commence in March 2021. The section is expected to be commissioned by December 2024. The section will have an estimated ridership of 600,000 passengers per day (2024).


In addition, BMRCL has signed an MoU with India-based real estate developer Embassy Group to develop one of the stations of Phase 2B at an estimated investment of INR1.40 billion. The duration of the concession agreement will be 30 years. The company has also invested in the development of two additional stations of the Bangalore Metro network.


Bangalore Metro Phase 2B will span 38 km and cover 17 stations. It will be developed at an estimated investment of INR105.84 billion. It may also be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
