Autonomous bus trial launched in Singapore [free access]

January 27, 2021

Singapore-based Alliance for Action, supported by CapitaLand and Jurong Town Corporation, has launched a three-month trial of on-demand autonomous bus services at Singapore Science Park 2 and on Jurong Island. These are the first autonomous buses operating a revenue service. The buses were developed by ST Engineering, with mapping technology provided by map tech firm GPS Lands. The trial will conclude on April 30, 2021.

A 7-metre-long bus with a seating capacity of 10 passengers will run on a six-stop route in Singapore Science City Park 2. Passengers will use the Zipstermobile application (app), developed by mobilityX, to book their rides. SMRT Corporation Limited will operate the bus.

A 12-metre-long bus with a seating capacity of 26 passengers will run on a 10-stop route in Jurong Island. Passengers will have to use the SWATRide app developed by SWAT Mobility, part of the Goldbell engineering and transport group. SBS Transit Limited will operate the bus.
