Nova Bus secures electric bus contract from TransLink, Canada [free access]

January 27, 2021

TransLink has awarded a CAD16 million contract to Nova Bus to supply the agency with 15 additional battery-electric buses. The buses will be deployed in Vancouver, within Metro Vancouver’s transportation network. The contract is funded through the Federal Gas Tax Fund, with funding allotted through the Metro Vancouver Gas Tax Fund.

As a part of its Low Carbon Fleet Strategy, TransLink has announced plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030, fully electrify route 100, replace all retiring conventional diesel buses with battery-electric buses, and transition to a fleet operating completely on renewable energy by 2050.

The new battery-electric buses are expected to be deployed on Route 100 in 2022. Delivery of these buses will increase TransLink’s battery-electric bus fleet size from four to 19 buses.
