Contracts awarded for Sydney Metro City & Southwest; EoIs invited for Sydney Metro West, Australia [free access]

Sydney Metro has awarded two contracts to upgrade Bankstown Line to metro standards under the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project. The combined value of these contracts is AUD325 million.

 

A joint venture of John Holland and Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction has secured an AUD227 million contract to renovate the Sydenham–Bankstown section of the line. The scope of work includes upgrading sections of track, including 15 bridges; undertaking improvements for retaining walls, culverts, and tracks; undertaking fencing and freight segregation; constructing new track crossovers; installing overhead wiring; and implementing utility modifications.

 

Downer EDI has secured an AUD98 million contract for the overhaul of the Hurlstone Park, Belmore, and Wiley Park stations to metro rail standards. The scope of work includes upgrading and re-levelling of the existing platforms to provide level access, installation of new lifts, and development of service buildings and station facilities.  

 

Passenger operations on the upgraded Bankstown Line will commence in 2024. A contract to upgrade the Campsie, Dulwich Hill, and Punchbowl stations is yet to be awarded. Further contracts are expected in 2021.

 

In addition, Sydney Metro has invited expressions of interest (EoIs) to execute works under the Parramatta Enabling Works package of the Sydney Metro West-Western Tunneling Package (WTP) at the Parramatta Station site. The scope of work includes demolition of 13 buildings, construction of a multi-level car parking facility, decommissioning and removal of five Endeavour Energy substations and installation of one new switching station, decommissioning of all utility connections to the buildings that are to be demolished, relocation of an Optus fibre optic cable, and construction of two public access roads. The last date for the submission of bids is February 19, 2021.

 

Sydney Metro West will span around 24 km and cover eight stations. It will be developed at an estimated investment of over AUD6.4 billion. Passenger operations are expected to commence in 2030.
