The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has awarded a contract to Nova Bus to supply 100 buses, with an option to purchase an additional 500 clean-diesel buses. The authority is purchasing new buses as a part of its ongoing efforts to modernise its existing fleet to enhance passenger experience and to reduce maintenance costs.
The purchase of the new buses will allow CTA to maintain a safe and reliable service while replacing the 100 remaining Nova 6400-series buses, which were purchased between 2000 and 2002.
The authority expects to receive the first prototypes in the fall / autumn of 2021, with production scheduled to begin in early 2022. The buses will have an average life of 12–14 years.
