February 22, 2021

The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) has launched a procurement process for the construction of the Bahrain Metro Project.

The project includes the development of an extensive rail-based urban transit network, spanning 109 km and comprising four transit lines. The transit network will be constructed in phases, using fully automated, driverless technology.

Phase I of the project comprises two lines with a total length of 28.6 km, serving a total of 20 stations, with two interchanges. The two lines will connect the key transit points, including Bahrain International Airport as well as major commercial areas, residential areas, and school districts.

MTT is seeking to partner with regional and global companies on a public–privatepartnership (PPP) basis and has announced plans to host a ‘Global Market Virtual Sounding Forum’ in early March 2021 to introduce the project and to engage in a dialogue with the key players in the global construction industry.

The total cost of the project is estimated to be around USD1USD2 billion.
