Rolling stock tenders issued for Netinera’s subsidiaries, Germany [free access]

April 7, 2021

Netinera, a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS), has issued two tenders for the procurement of new rolling stock that will be deployed on rail lines operated by Netinera’s subsidiaries that operate regional contracts in Germany. The subsidiaries include Die Länderbahn, Metronom, and Alex.

The first tender includes the supply of 50 battery electric multiple units (BEMUs) with the capacity to accommodate 180 seated passengers. The total number of trains required is dependent on Netinera’s future success in securing regional contracts. The trains are expected to be delivered with an authorisation to be placed in service before December 2026.

The second tender is split into two lots. Lot 1 comprises an order for up to 25 electric multiple units (EMUs) with the capacity to accommodate 220 passengers. Lot 2 comprises 15 BEMUs with the capacity to accommodate 105 passengers. The EMUs are expected to be delivered before December 2024.

The orders may be split between different suppliers.  The orders also require maintenance and special warranties with regard to the batteries. The deadline for the submission of bids is April 28 2021.
