West End Connectors secures Eglinton Crosstown West tunnelling contract, Canada [free access]

Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have awarded a USD604.6 million contract to West End Connectors to design, build, and finance the tunnels for the 9.2-km Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, a part of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension Advance Tunnel project. The West End Connectors team includes Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc., Dragados Canada Inc., Ghella Canada Ltd. (responsible for development and construction); TYPSA Inc., EXP Services Inc. (responsible for designing); and ACS Infrastructure Canada, Aecon Concessions, Scotiabank Capital, Ghella Investments and Partnerships (responsible for the financial side of the project).


The scope of works includes supply of tunnel-boring machines and installation of tunnel liners for 6 km of tunnels, and design and construction of launch and extraction shafts, tunnels, as well as headwalls for emergency exit buildings and stations.


Construction is expected to start in spring 2022 and project delivery is expected to be completed by 2031. The project will serve as an extension of the Toronto Transit Commission’s future Line 5 and will connect Mount Dennis Station to Renforth Drive.
