May 26, 2021

The government of Sverdlovsk oblast and Verkhnepyshminskiy Tramway LLC, a part of the Movista Regions group, have signed a 10-year concession agreement to finance, build, and operate an interurban tramway line that will connect the town of Yekaterinburg with the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma. The project is expected to cost RUB1.9 billion. The funds will be raised by the concessionaire, with VEB.RF, a state development corporation, contributing funds within a year of the agreement being signed.

The 9-km-long line will be serviced by a fleet of 11 single-section low-floor trams. It is expected to have a journey time of 20 to 30 minutes and is being designed for a commercial speed of less than 24 km per hour. The southern terminus of the line will be in the north of Yekaterinburg, with a connection to the city’s own tram network. The project also includes the design and construction of a modern high-tech depot in Verkhnyaya Pyshma.
