Sinara GTR Taganrog to modernise tram network in Taganrog, Russia [free access]

The municipality of Taganrog and Sinara GTR Taganrog have signed a concession agreement for the modernisation of the infrastructure of the city’s tram network and for the supply of rolling stock. The total cost is estimated to be RUB11·84 billion. Of the total, the city will contribute RUB2·58 billion, and Sinara GTR Taganrog will provide the remaining amount (RUB6.86 billion through credit funds from VEB.RF, a state development corporation, and RUB2.40 billion from the company’s own funds).


The project includes rebuilding 45 km of track; rebuilding the depot, substations, and control centre; modernisation of 80 stops with electronic information boards and CCTV; and deployment of a fleet of 60 fully low-floor single-section trams. The vehicles will feature passenger-counting equipment, ticket machine, passenger information system, CCTV, charging sockets for mobile devices, and facilities for passengers with reduced mobility.


The project will be executed in two phases. The first phase includes the renewal of track from Krasny Kotelshchik to Dobrolyubovsky Pereulok on Route 3, and the reconstruction of three substations and the control centre at Rosa Luxemburg. This modernised route will be served by 10 new trams. The second phase includes the rest of the works, including delivery of all the trams. The first phase was completed in 2020 and the second phase is scheduled for completion by September 2022.
