South Korea and Paraguay signs MoU to develop Asuncion Light Rail [free access]

The Government of Paraguay and the Government of South Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to develop the Asuncion Light Rail project in Paraguay. The term of the partnership is 30 years.


The project will be regulated by the Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation (KIND) and Ferrocarriles del Paraguay SA (FEPASA). KIND also conducted the feasibility study for the project.


The LRT project involves construction of a 43-km line (from Asuncion to Ypacaral), seven stations, and a railway depot. The total investment for the 43-km line is estimated to be USD500 million. It is planned to be completed by 2026.
