Bids invited to conduct feasibility study for Kansas City streetcar expansion project, US [free access]

September 8, 2021

North Kansas City, the Kansas City Streetcar Authority (KCSA), and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) have invited bids to conduct a feasibility study for extending the streetcar services into North Kansas City. The last date for the submission of bids is September 20, 2021.

North Kansas City and KCSA will split the estimated USD180,000 cost of the study, which is expected to be completed by June 2022. The new line is expected to be open by 2025.

Earlier, in 2014, a feasibility study for the extension was conducted, which stated the preferred route from the Heart of America Bridge to 32rd Avenue at an estimated cost of around USD134 million. However, the study was not approved.

The existing streetcar project opened in 2016. It runs from Union Station to the River Market. Two separate extensions are already in the works.
