New Zealand: Trends in bus ridership in Auckland [free access]

October 1, 2021

Buses provide around 70 per cent of the trips in Auckland, and are the most popular mode of transport in the city. Auckland Transport (AT) manages the bus transport and has subcontracted the operations to several private players.

During 2011–2013, ridership was fairly stable. It increased from 2014–2015, declining again in 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, ridership increased again, but recorded a decline of about 39 per cent due to COVID-19 in 2020.
