OBB to re-tender its withdrawn contract for 186 trains, Austria [free access]

October 11, 2021

Österreichische Bundesbahnen (OBB), the Austrian Federal Railways, has confirmed that it will restart the tender process for a framework contract for the supply of up to 186 double-deck trains. The confirmation was made after the Austrian Federal Administrative Court declared OBB’s contract with Stadler null and void due to a formal error in the offer’s qualified electronic signature.

The contract, valued at EUR3 billion, had been awarded to Stadler which had signed the offer with a Swiss version of a digital signature that is not recognized by the European Union (EU) and Austria.
