Ecuador plans to deploy 40,000 electric buses by 2040 [free access]

Ecuador’s Ministry of Transportation and Public Works has announced its National Electromobility Strategy/ Estrategia Nacional de Electromovilidad (ENEE), under which up to 40,000 electric buses are planned to be deployed on public transport systems. Under the strategy, a series of goals is established for three periods—2025, 2030, and 2040.

 

The national government plans to deploy a total of 1,500 electric buses by 2025, 11,000 electric buses by 2030, and 40,000 electric buses by 2040. The strategy was carried out in collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

 

Currently, electric buses are deployed in the city of Guayaquil.
