MDOT selects Dragados and OHL to complete construction on Maryland Purple Line LRT, US [free access]

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) has selected Dragados ACS and OHL USA to complete the construction works on the Maryland Purple Line light rail transit (LRT). The contract is yet to be approved by the Maryland Department of Public Works. 

 

The initial construction contract was awarded to Fluor in 2017; it was worth USD2.25 billion. 

 

The consortium, Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP), led by Meridiam, is responsible for building the line, financing part of its construction, and operating the line for 30 years. The line is being built for MDOT and the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) under a USD5.6 billion 36-year public-private partnership (PPP) deal signed with PLTP in 2016.

 

The Purple Line will span 25.75 km and will extend from Bethesda in Montgomery County to New Carrollton in Prince George’s County. It will also connect to the Metrorail Red, Green, and Orange lnes at Bethesda, Silver Spring, College Park, and New Carrollton. The Purple Line will also connect to MARC, Amtrak, and local bus services.
