November 24, 2021

The US Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded a USD15 million grant to the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, to construct a new multimodal transit centre to replace the existing open-air bus terminal in downtown Charlotte. The new transit centre will include an underground bus concourse with connections to the LYNX Blue Line light rail, the CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar, local and regional bus service, and a new bicycle and pedestrian trail. The City of Charlotte also plans to develop new retail and office space atop the new facility it is once completed.

Further, USDOT has awarded a USD18.5 million grant to the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) to procure new ticket machines and to develop two new transit hubs. The RTA plans to add new fare boxes for the buses, streetcars, and ferries in New Orleans and Kenner. The fare boxes will allow passengers to pay for transit using transit access pass cards or preloaded cards.
